O feminino no teatro de Plauto
crítica à sociedade e à política da República Romana na comédia O Mercador

O presente artigo discute as personagens femininas do teatro de Plauto, evidenciando sua atuação como forma de criticar a ordem político-familiar da sociedade da República Romana. Ao nos dedicarmos à leitura das obras plautinas, percebemos o modo pelo qual o discurso teatral, dispondo de sentido em seu tempo, reverbera a sociedade da sua época. Nesse sentido, intentamos analisar passagens selecionadas da peça O Mercador, nas quais a escrita de Plauto projeta mulheres em posições e diálogos dissonantes ao arranjo social romano. Teoricamente, amparamo-nos na perspectiva de gênero e consideramos o político como área de estudo de articulação das relações do social romano. Assim, revelamos uma imagem das personagens femininas na documentação plautina e demonstramos como suas ações aparecem em face os moldes de poder da cena republicana.
