About the Journal
The initial project for Miscelânea: Revista de Literatura e Vida Social (Miscellany: Journal of Literature and Social Life) began to be formulated in 1991, during the 1st Seminar of Literary Studies: Literary Miscellany – an event that gave rise to the idea for the journal's title. Representing a collective desire of students and faculty, the publication was coordinated by then-students Osvaldo Copertino Duarte, Cleide Antônia Rapucci, and Alvaro Santos Simões Junior, and supervised by professors Elêusis Mirian Camocardi, Léa Mara Valezi Staut, Sueli Fadul Villibor Flory, Tania Celestino de Macêdo, and Luiz Roberto Velloso Cairo, creator of the so-called SEL (Seminar of Literary Studies), whose fourteenth edition was held in 2018.
The initial cover of the journal was conceived and designed by brothers Osvaldo and Audálio Duarte, also featuring the special contribution of poet Augusto de Campos, who kindly allowed the inclusion of his poem "Póstudo" (Post-Study).
In its initial proposal, Miscelânea presented itself as a journal open to all trends and lines of research in the field of literary art studies, prioritizing difference as the seed that nourishes academic debate and prevents the formation of endogenous spaces harmful to intellectual growth.
This initial project resulted in the publication of three volumes in print format, corresponding to the years 1993 (vol. 1), 1995 (vol. 2), and 1998 (vol. 3). In these volumes, Miscelânea featured collaborations from Brazilian and foreign researchers who affirmed the University's position as a "territory without borders of confrontations, of dissensions that drive knowledge, learning, opinion, research, and experience" (Luiz Roberto Velloso Cairo. Two words. Miscelânea, Assis, v. 2, p. 7, 1995).
Adapting to current trends, *Miscelânea* was converted into an electronic journal starting with volume 4 (June-November 2008), with a semi-annual periodicity, taking advantage of the resources and resources offered by electronic media, such as: low production cost, unrestricted accessibility, and flexibility of technical support. In its editorial aims, the journal seeks to reconcile the creation of a space for the improvement of the training of young researchers who make up its team with the commitment to producing a scientific journal that can guarantee the quality of its publications.
From the aforementioned volume 4 to volume 9 (January-June 2011), Miscelânea was the responsibility of students from the Postgraduate Program in Letters, especially Jaison Luís Crestani and Adriana Dusilek, to whom credit should be given for rescuing the publication from the limbo in which it lay for ten long years. This group of students re-established the journal and maintained its regular publication until, starting with the tenth volume (July-December 2011), the faculty decided to fully and definitively engage in the editorial work of the publication, which, since its origin, has been closely associated with the Program.
