Abstract

The present study intends to approach the aspects of the indigenous daily life, during the colonial period of the village of São Paulo, in the old village of São Miguel de Ururaí. The documentary and bibliographic research, offered us notes of how these natives settled there, taking into account the clashes and cultural exchanges through the contact between colonists and religious. The reference of this meeting was the construction of the chapel of São Miguel Arcanjo, dated 1622. Even if they did not come into direct confrontation, the indigenous people knew how to maintain their own identity through the act of reframing the culture that was imposed on them.
