Abstract

Based on Roger Chartier's concept of representation, the problem of an absolute and final truth for historical science is presented - as a focus, we have the construction of the representation of Islam as a perverse figure. For more than a millennium the Muslim world has been represented in a stereotyped manner - an image that in its formation had a specific meaning and context - but which today is nothing more than a reproduction, little analyzed and discussed. Thus, it is intended to present the need to think about the motivation of this imagery, which, as Karen Armstrong says (2002), was linked to the context of the formation of secular heroes of medieval society, being amplified by the need to combat the representation of an added enemy with its consequences and permanencies. Based on the writings of Mártires Córdoba (852 - 859), a critical history is presented, combating absolute notions, starting from a reframing of notions and concepts, questioning images that are deeply rooted, and little worked. As a result of this research, there is an understanding of what leads to the formation of certain representations and why the view of Islam remains negative, making clear the need more better studies in this niche of the great field, which is oriental culture.
