Abstract

Bases on the time frame that marks the constructions the construction of BR-210 highway, also known as Perimetral Norte , in the southern tip of the Yanomami territory in the 1970s, we seek to understand how this highway was related to forced displacements and an intense process illness of residents of the Ajarani river valley region, eastern limit of the Yanomami Indigenous Land, in the state of Roraima. The opening of glades, the process of clearing the forest to build a road, accompanied the arrival of loggers, goldminers and farmers. This triplet of exploiters of the land entered the yanomami territory, at the time not yet officially demarcated, without the control of local governments or responsible authorities. Thus, the objective of this article is to investigate the process of expanding borders in the Amazon, some of the consequences for these people and the socio-historical transformations since the arrival of invading agents. Creative and political efforts to use space are the backdrop. For this, it uses the anthropological material and reports from the construction period of Perimetral Norte. Based on the abovesaid, the goal of the study is to contribute to the understanding of the colonization process in the Ajarani river valley region.
