Drawing on a look at the lace universe, we approach in this paper historical and technical questions based on the knowledge of the five centuries of its existence. The aim is to unveil and reveal the lace collection from the Moda e Têxtil Museum of Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). It is a qualitative study, of an applied nature, based on bibliographical and documental research. For this purpose, authors such as Pat Earnshaw, Délia Etcheverry, Jeremy Farrel, George Middleton, and others are used as the theoretical basis. It was observed that the collection under study is an important heritage and presents relevant richness regarding textile design. This is because it contemplates a wide range of items representative of the manual and industrial process, in addition to visual diversity and historical value, contributing to make these objects important primary sources for future investigations, research and enjoyment
