Methodology for Dialogue

Abstract

The oral history, as qualitative research methodology, brings other dimensions to the historiographical debate. Through it the historian can visualize several points of view of a particular historical fact. In this regard, it is noteworthy that its use depends on the understanding that the dialogue between researcher and respondent presents specifics. Using up oral history requires understanding that research is only possible through researcher’s will, which defines its subject and its characters, exposing much of themselves in their work. Moreover, we should note that no character will narrate his story without calculating what consequences this narrative could bring for him, whether negative or positive. So seek the testimony is knowing that we are entering matters of a private nature, which are even more delicate when the characters in question are alive and willing to evaluate what his testimony might cause on society.
